Hollow Parts

Creating a hollow part is a good technique to use to cut down on the volume of the prototype.  This is important because volume is one of the main factors that play into the price of the prototype.  Apart with a lower volume can be created quickly and more cost effectively.

Below shows a solid part in its original design.  This section of you next to it shows the part after being hollowed with the typical wall thickness of .075 inches.  At this point they will now be resin trapped in the center of the park.  What we now have to do is create a drain hole in the part and a corresponding plug. The plug is growen with the part on the same run.  After the part is finished and cleaned the plug is inserted and include into the part.  The end of the plug is sanded flush with the main body and resin is used to fill in the seem.  This will produce a part that looks to be solid but is much more cost effective than a solid one would be.
