Computer Numerical Control (CNC)

Prototype CNC General Design Guideline

Part Size

The First stage in our process is to e process uses  a three-axis CNC mills capable of producing parts within a 18” x 20” x 18” envelope. The minimum part size is 0.25” x 0.25” x 0.25” however this is geometry depended because these parts can pose a challenge to hold.

Part Features

For more complex parts or difficult to reproduce features a 4 or 5 axis mill can be utilized. It is important to note that text should have a minimum with or .025” and should be embossed or raised the same dimension.  Additional inside corners should carry a radius on it because this is a result of the milling process. For 90 degree corners additional steps will need to be taken.

Wall Thickness

There is no requirement for uniform wall or any limited on wall thickness. However wall thinner than 0.025” can be damaged or cut away during the milling process.

Tolerances

Tolerances of +/- 0.003 in. are expected and generally achieved with the basic CNC options can yield better results
